I had a great time at Pittenweem. I was exhibiting there for the first time – in fact, it was my first public solo show. So it was lovely to talk to so many people and the wonderful feedback was a nice boost to my confidence, too! While it is great to be exhibiting in galleries, being able to chat about people’s own emotional reactions to the work was just brilliant. I really look forward to returning next year.
The festival also gave me my first review, thanks to Cate Newton, who wrote about the festival for Dundee University Review of the Arts. Cate writes: ‘Amongst such a predominance of skies, seascapes and fields, it is exciting to encounter the intense vitality of the mark-making in the work of Louise Turnbull, a largely self-taught artist exhibiting at Pittenweem for the first time.’ You can read the full review here.
